What surfaced
A post on r/ONEPIECETCG on August 20 laid out a familiar local game store problem: a chain running two locations published two different prerelease dates, one on Tuesday the 18th and one on Friday the 21st, and the poster and a friend could not get a clean answer on which event they could actually attend. The thread was a rant, not an announcement, but the underlying issue is a real distribution one. Prerelease allocation is set by Bandai, and how a store spreads it across sites determines who gets sealed product first and at what price.
We have no matched card or set rows tied to this thread. So the useful question is what the sealed and singles data says about the environment those prerelease seats are opening into.
The sealed board is lopsided
As of August 20, the expected value board is not a flat field. OP17 sits alone at the top with a box market price of $332.84 against modeled EV of $1,067, a ratio of 3.2. Everything below it is under water on paper.
| Set | Box market | EV | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| OP17 | $332.84 | $1,067 | 3.2 |
| OP15 | $260.46 | $207 | 0.8 |
| OP14 | $264.30 | $189 | 0.72 |
| OP11 | $644.78 | $438 | 0.68 |
| PRB02 | $393.01 | $262 | 0.67 |
That 3.2 figure is thin-market math on a young set and will compress as more singles print into the data, but the direction matters. When one product prices at a fraction of its modeled contents and the four behind it sit between 0.67 and 0.8, a prerelease seat is not a uniform good. Which box you crack is the whole trade. Singles: promos ran, ST01 legacy bled
The seven-day movers show where the heat actually went, and it was not into sealed staples. Sabo (004) (Alternate Art) leads at $43.33, up 116.8 percent. Jinbe out of OP05ANN is at $26.41, up 88.4 percent. The Sabo (Sound Loader Ace and Sabo Edition 2026) promo added 55.5 percent to $31.41, and Sanji (Round 1 Promo) rose 30.4 percent to $50.66.
The downside was concentrated in older starter and gift material. Monkey.D.Luffy (001) fell 31.4 percent to $46.04. Sabo (120) (English Version 3rd Anniversary Set) dropped 30.1 percent to $91.20. Tony Tony.Chopper (Gift Collection 2023) shed 27.5 percent and still carries the highest tag on either list at $199.55. Both Nico Robin prints moved, the ST01PRE version down 28 percent to $25.69 while the OP10RE copy went the other way, up 25.3 percent to $20.46.
Why the store calendar matters
Promos are doing the work this week, and promos are exactly what prerelease and event attendance distribute. Four of the five top gainers are promo or alternate art printings rather than mainline pulls. A collector locked out of a Tuesday event because the Friday location took the allocation is not just missing a box, they are missing the participation product that the seven-day tape says is repricing fastest.
The Terminal take
One store's calendar is not a market event. But the split between a 3.2 EV ratio on OP17 and a 0.67 to 0.8 band on everything else, paired with promos posting the only triple-digit gain on the board at 116.8 percent, says the value in this cycle is unevenly distributed across access channels. Where you can buy is currently doing as much work as what you buy.
