The complaint
A thread surfaced on r/ONEPIECETCG on August 27 arguing that OP17 simply does not land. The poster's framing: with EB05 and OP18 now announced, the appetite to chase singles from the current main set has drained away. Replies echoed the same fatigue, which is the kind of soft signal that usually shows up in secondary prices a few weeks before anyone writes it down.
This is sentiment, not a product recall. But sentiment about a set that is still in active print matters, because it moves both sealed demand and the willingness to pay above market for chase singles.
What the tape says
The seven day loser board is close to an OP17 monoculture. Five of the top five decliners come from the set, and the drawdowns are steep.
| Card | Price | 7d |
|---|---|---|
| Shanks (020) (Alternate Art) | $44.71 | -85.1% |
| Kaido (062) (Alternate Art) | $23.92 | -84.1% |
| Rocks.D.Xebec (039) (Alternate Art) | $126.05 | -56.4% |
| Rocks.D.Xebec (118) | $36.23 | -54.7% |
| Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Alternate Art) | $131.98 | -54.4% |
That is the price discovery pattern of a set moving from preorder scarcity into supply. Early listings clear high, then product volume arrives and the alt art tier resets. The Reddit thread reads it as a vibes problem. The data reads it as a supply curve.
The other half of OP17
The same set also produced two of this week's biggest gainers, both DON!! cards. The DON!! Card (Alternate Art) (Rocks) (Special Foil) sits at $79.64, up 244.8% on the week, and the DON!! Card (Alternate Art) (Luffy and Loki) (Gold) at $21.53, up 169.1%. Money is clearly still in OP17, it has just rotated to the thinnest slots.
At the top end, the Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Super Leader Alternate Art) is marked at $2,500, matching Charlotte Linlin (112) (Manga) at $2,500, with Edward.Newgate (005) (Manga) at $2,299.99. Nothing about those marks suggests a set with no ceiling.
Sealed math
Here is the awkward part for the thread's thesis. OP17 is the current box EV leader: $345.68 market against $528 in expected value, a 1.53 ratio. The next four on the board are all below 1.00. OP15 sits at 0.80, OP14 at 0.72, OP11 at 0.70, and PRB02 at 0.68.
Both EB05 and OP18 have no box market or EV data yet, which is exactly what you would expect from newly announced product. Excitement about them is free right now because nothing has been priced.
The Terminal take
The community is telling you OP17 is boring; the EV table is telling you it is the only set on the leaderboard where expected contents exceed box cost, at 1.53 against a field topping out at 0.80. Both can be true. Chase singles resetting 54% to 85% in a week is what compresses box price faster than EV, and a set nobody is excited about is a set nobody is bidding up. Excitement about EB05 and OP18 is currently a number-free asset.
