What surfaced

A thread on r/ONEPIECETCG this weekend described a familiar sealed-product problem. A buyer took seven packs off a freshly cracked OP17 display and hit a secret rare plus two alternate arts inside that small sample, then asked the obvious follow-up: what is realistically left in the other seventeen packs.

It is an anecdote, not a data set. But it is the kind of anecdote that moves sealed sentiment, and OP17 happens to be the one set right now where the sealed math is genuinely interesting.

The sealed math on OP17

OP17 is the single most favorable box on our expected value board. Market price on a box sits at $342.57 against a modeled EV of $450, an EV ratio of 1.31. Nothing else on the leaderboard is above parity.

Set Box market Box EV Ratio
OP17 $342.57 $450 1.31
OP15 $250.23 $202 0.81
OP11 $618.72 $442 0.71
OP14 $264.46 $184 0.70
PRB02 $391.60 $265 0.68

The caveat every EV reader should internalize: that $450 figure is an average across the full print distribution, and the distribution is brutally top-heavy. Rocks.D.Xebec (118) (Super Alternate Art) carries a $7,999 market price. Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Super Leader Alternate Art) prints at $2,216.66, and Shanks (022) (Manga) at $1,482.13. A handful of cards carries the entire number. The median box does not look like the mean box.

The part the anecdote does not capture

While the top of OP17 holds up, the middle of the set is in freefall. Every one of this week's five largest seven-day decliners is an OP17 card.

Edward.Newgate (001) (Alternate Art) is down 75.9% to $20.94. Kaido (062) (Alternate Art) is off 71.2% to $20.40, and Kaido (058) (Alternate Art) is down 70.3% to $39.27. Edward.Newgate (040) (TR) fell 63.4% to $62.24, matched by Shanks (020) (Alternate Art), also down 63.4%, to $33.20.

That is textbook post-release supply absorption. The cards that a lucky seven-pack run is most likely to produce are exactly the cards repricing hardest as displays get opened en masse. A secret rare and two alternate arts early in a box tells you very little about the seventeen packs behind them, and the alternate arts themselves are worth materially less than they were seven days ago.

Where the money actually went this week

Sealed OP17 dominated the downside, but the upside was elsewhere and mostly older. Charlotte Pudding (Alternate Art) from OP11 gained 66.3% to $36.08, and Charlotte Pudding (058) (Parallel) rose 35.3% to $67.62. Nico Robin (062) (Parallel) added 44.5% to $113.34.

Promo tournament stock also ran. San-Gorou (Treasure Cup 2025) moved 31% to $949.88, and Tony Tony.Chopper (Offline Regional 2024 Vol. 3) [Finalist] gained 23.5% to $699.97.

The Terminal take

OP17's 1.31 EV ratio is real and it is the only above-parity box on our EV board, but it is a mean driven by a $7,999 tail card, not a description of a typical display. The five steepest seven-day decliners in the entire market are all OP17 hits, which means the EV numerator is actively being repriced downward even as the box price holds at $342.57. Watch whether that ratio compresses from the top or the bottom over the next two weeks.
