What happened
Bandai Card Games published its third OP-17 New Leader Battle segment on August 28, 2026, continuing the promotional drumbeat around the set's new leaders ahead of wider availability. It is a marketing beat, not a product change, but leader-focused content historically shapes which chase cards get chased.
The timing is awkward for anyone who bought OP17 alt arts a week ago. Our seven-day tables are dominated by OP17, and not on the upside.
The data: OP17 owns the loser board
Every one of this week's five largest decliners is an OP17 card. That is the signature of early-print supply hitting a market that priced presale hype first and print runs second.
| Card | Number | Price | 7d |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shanks (020) (Alternate Art) | OP17-020 | $30.13 | -90% |
| Kaido (062) (Alternate Art) | OP17-062 | $21.94 | -79.6% |
| Rocks.D.Xebec (039) (Alternate Art) | OP17-039 | $69.07 | -76.1% |
| Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Alternate Art) | OP17-079 | $70.72 | -75.6% |
| Loki (Alternate Art) | OP17-119 | $62.55 | -65.2% |
A 90% single-week drawdown on the Shanks alt art is the kind of number that only appears when thin presale prints meet real product. Note the ordering: the cheapest survivors fell hardest in percentage terms, while the $60 to $70 tier held marginally better.
The top of the set has not moved with it
The upper shelf of OP17 is a different market. Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Super Leader Alternate Art) sits at $2,500, Charlotte Linlin (112) (Manga) at $1,977.99, and Shanks (022) (Manga) at $1,450.62. Those are ultra-thin-pull tiers where sealed supply barely dents the float.
That split matters for the box math. OP17 sealed trades at $320.04 against an expected value of $410, an EV ratio of 1.28, the highest on our EV leaderboard. The next four sets all sit below 1.00: OP15 at 0.79, OP14 at 0.71, OP11 at 0.70, and PRB02 at 0.67.
Read that carefully. An EV ratio above 1.00 driven by four-figure hits is a lottery-ticket distribution, not an arbitrage. The commons and mid alt arts inside that EV calculation are exactly the cards printing -65% to -90% this week, so the number is only as durable as those $1,450 to $2,500 marks.
Elsewhere on the tape
The gainers came from older inventory. Mary Geoise (Alternate Art) rose 423.1% to $32.59, Saint Shalria (Premium Card Collection -Best Selection Vol. 5-) added 174.3% to $22.03, and Nico Robin (062) (Parallel) climbed 59.6% to $113.35. Whale alerts also flagged DON!! Card (Donquixote Doflamingo) (Gold) at $186.72 on a 25% move and DON!! Card (Sabo) (Gold) at $122.54 on 18.6%.
The Terminal take
OP17 is currently the market's widest barbell: a set whose 1.28 EV ratio is propped up by three cards priced between $1,450.62 and $2,500 while its everyday alt arts shed 65% to 90% in seven days. Leader-focused promo content from Bandai tends to route demand toward specific leaders rather than lifting a set floor, so watch whether the sub-$100 OP17 tier stabilizes before treating that EV ratio as anything but top-heavy.
