The first blind format

A thread on r/ONEPIECETCG this week put the question plainly: with most of OP17 revealed, which deck do you pick up for the opening weeks of the format? The wrinkle players flagged is that this is the first time there is no Japanese metagame to borrow from, so the usual practice of importing tier lists from an earlier release window does not apply.

That matters more to the market than it sounds. Deck-first buying is what drives singles demand in the two weeks after a set drops, and deck-first buying normally follows imported results. Without that, price discovery on OP17 staples happens live, through local events, and it happens with wider spreads.

What the sealed math says

OP17 sealed product is currently the most expensive way to guess. The box is marked at $432.26 against $260 in expected singles value, an EV ratio of 0.60. That is the weakest ratio among the sets we track closely.

OP15 at 0.94 is the outlier in the other direction, and the gap between 0.94 and 0.60 is the entire argument against cracking new product to chase deck pieces. Full table lives on the EV page.

Where the money actually moved

While the format debate ran, the seven-day board was busy elsewhere. Monkey.D.Luffy (033) from OP07PRE led gainers at $69.38, up 116 percent. Charlotte Pudding added 104.6 percent to $29.11, and our whale screen logged the same card at a 117.6 percent move, which is a small-base print behaving like a small-base print.

Below that, When You're at Sea You Fight against Pirates!! rose 57.1 percent to $51.97, Nami (033) gained 54.8 percent to $50.17, and San-Gorou put on 44 percent to $54.05. Older event and reprint stock, not new set inventory.

The promo unwind

The loser side is a single story. Round 1 promos gave back hard: Nami (Round 1 Promo) fell 40.6 percent to $143.08, Nico Robin (Round 1 Promo) dropped 39.5 percent to $115.04, and Jinbe (Round 1 Promo) shed 33.4 percent to $28.88.

Two Luffy promos joined them: the Gift Collection 2023 print at $130.25, down 32.2 percent, and Winner Pack 2026 Vol. 2 at $109.60, down 23.8 percent. High-end chase pieces were mixed: Tony Tony.Chopper (SP) up 10.9 percent to $3,165.98, Marshall.D.Teach (Manga) up 14.3 percent to $1,999.99, and Portgas.D.Ace (Super Alternate Art) down 11.8 percent to $1,085.64.

The Terminal take

A format with no imported results is a format where singles prices lag consensus by a week or two rather than leading it. The data currently rewards patience mechanically: OP17 sealed converts at 0.60 while OP15 converts at 0.94, and this week's biggest percentage gains came from cards that have been in circulation for multiple sets. The community's deck question will get answered by tournament results, and the price tape will follow, not precede, those results.
