A thread on r/ONEPIECETCG asked the simplest question in the format: which OP17 Leader are you actually going to build? The poster said they were locking in Big Mom and put up a poll for everyone else. No product news, no leak, just deck-building intent from the people who will be buying the singles.

That is worth a market note, because deck-building intent is the demand curve for Leaders and their supporting SRs. And OP17 is currently the most distorted set on our expected value board.

The number that matters

OP17 sealed is marketed at $371.76 per box against an expected value of $1,120, an EV ratio of 3.01. Nothing else on the EV leaderboard is close.

Every other set in the top five prices sealed above the sum of its singles, which is the normal, mature state of affairs. OP17 at 3.01 is the signature of an early set: thin secondary supply, aggressive single asks, and a box price that has not yet caught up to what people are paying piecemeal. Those ratios compress. They almost always do.

What the Leader chatter is chasing

The chase card in the conversation is Shanks (020) (Alternate Art), the alt-art Leader, at $299.99. That single is doing most of the heavy lifting in the EV calculation, and it is the reason a $371.76 box looks cheap on paper. It is one card out of a box, and most boxes will not contain it.

Below that, the playable tier is flat and cheap. Shanks (022) and Kaido (062) both sit at $29.99 as base SRs. That is the actual cost of participating in the OP17 metagame conversation, and it is the price point that community threads like this one tend to move first. Leader polls are a leading indicator for SR demand, not for alt-art demand.

Context: promos took a haircut

While OP17 interest builds, the Round 1 promo complex had an ugly week. Sanji (Round 1 Promo) is down 64.9% to $39.42, Monkey.D.Luffy (Round 1 Promo) down 60% to $204.02, and Nico Robin (Round 1 Promo) down 54% to $74.41. Newly distributed promos repricing downward is the mirror image of a new set repricing upward: both are supply discovery.

At the other end, tournament-issue promos ran hot. Koby (Treasure Cup) gained 50.2% to $599.90 and Trafalgar Law (Online Regional Finalist Card Set 2025 Vol.2) added 32.5% to $300.

The Terminal take

A Leader poll is not a price signal, but it tells you where attention is pointed, and attention in OP17 currently meets a set whose singles sum to three times its box price. The 3.01 ratio is a function of one $299.99 alt-art Leader, not broad strength: the $29.99 SRs are the honest read on where the set's floor sits. Watch whether that ratio holds through the next month of sealed opening.
