What surfaced
A player posted to r/ONEPIECETCG on August 31 asking how much resentment a new OP17 Big Mom build would generate at their local event the following day. It is a small thread by any measure, but it is a useful marker: OP17 is now far enough into circulation that people are testing archetypes in person rather than theorycrafting them in spreadsheets.
That matters for pricing more than most community posts do, because OP17 is currently the single most volatile set on the board. This week it accounted for the entire top five decliners list.
The OP17 correction, in numbers
Every one of the five worst 7-day performers in our coverage universe carries an OP17 number. The declines are not marginal.
| Card | Number | Price | 7d |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edward.Newgate (001) (Alternate Art) | OP17-001 | $20.94 | -75.9% |
| Kaido (062) (Alternate Art) | OP17-062 | $20.40 | -71.2% |
| Kaido (058) (Alternate Art) | OP17-058 | $39.27 | -70.3% |
| Edward.Newgate (040) (TR) | OP17-040 | $62.24 | -63.4% |
| Shanks (020) (Alternate Art) | OP17-020 | $33.20 | -63.4% |
This is the standard shape of a post-release supply flush. Preorder and first-week pricing gets set by scarcity and hype, then pack volume arrives and the mid-tier alt arts find their real level. Drops in the 60 to 76 percent range are severe, but they are concentrated in the SR and TR band rather than the top of the rarity ladder.
The top end held
The headline cards did not participate in the slide. Rocks.D.Xebec (118) (Super Alternate Art) sits at $7,999, Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Super Leader Alternate Art) at $2,216.66, and Shanks (022) (Manga) at $1,482.13. None of those appear on the decliners table.
That divergence is what keeps OP17 at the top of the box EV rankings. A sealed box marks at $342.57 against an expected value of $450, an EV ratio of 1.31. It is the only set on our EV board currently printing above parity.
| Set | Box market | EV | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| OP17 | $342.57 | $450 | 1.31 |
| OP15 | $250.23 | $202 | 0.81 |
| OP11 | $618.72 | $442 | 0.71 |
| OP14 | $264.46 | $184 | 0.70 |
| PRB02 | $391.60 | $265 | 0.68 |
The caveat is structural: an EV of $450 built on a $7,999 secret rare is a lottery ticket dressed up as arithmetic. The median box does not contain a Xebec. When the mid-rarity floor drops 70 percent in a week, the non-jackpot outcomes get worse fast, and the ratio is slower to reflect that than the individual card charts are.
Elsewhere this week
The gainers list was entirely non-OP17. Charlotte Pudding (Alternate Art) led at $36.08, up 66.3 percent, with Charlotte Pudding (058) (Parallel) at $67.62, up 35.3 percent. Two Pudding prints moving together in the same week that a Big Mom build gets community airtime is a coincidence worth noting, not a causal chain.
The Terminal take
OP17 is doing two things at once: holding a $7,999 ceiling and losing three quarters of the value on its cheaper alt arts inside seven days. The 1.31 EV ratio is real, and it is also the most top-heavy number on the board. Watch whether the mid-rarity floor stabilizes before the ratio does.
