What surfaced
A deckbuilding post on r/ONEPIECETCG on August 18 asked for revisions to an OP16-era Ace list rebuilt for the OP17 format, with a specific question attached: does the Premium Booster Koby earn a slot, largely on the argument that it plays cleanly on curve. No event announcement, no product news, just the kind of format-transition question that tends to precede singles demand shifting one set forward.
That matters for pricing because format transitions move money in two directions at once. Newly legal or newly relevant staples get bid up before results confirm them, and the previous set's sealed product loses the argument that it prints the format.
The box math has already picked a side
Our set pages show the cleanest version of that story. OP17 trades at a box market price of $331.74 against an expected value of $1,055, an EV ratio of 3.18. OP16 sits at $225.03 with EV of $136, a ratio of 0.61.
| Set | Box market | Box EV | EV ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| OP17 | $331.74 | $1,055 | 3.18 |
| OP16 | $225.03 | $136 | 0.61 |
| PRB02 | $393.09 | $263 | 0.67 |
An EV ratio above 1 is unusual and usually reflects hot chase pricing that has not yet been absorbed by supply. OP17's top of the market is stacked and flat: Shanks (020) (Alternate Art) and Edward.Newgate (001) (Alternate Art) both mark at $299.99, with Charlotte Linlin (099) (Alternate Art) at $299.84. Three leaders inside sixteen cents of each other is a set where the chase tier is being priced as a block rather than card by card.
Premium Booster remains the awkward supply channel for the exact card the thread is asking about. PRB02 boxes mark at $393.09 against $263 of EV, a 0.67 ratio, which is roughly in line with the rest of the sealed board on our EV page.
What is actually moving
The seven-day tape is not rewarding OP17 singles yet. The top gainer is Sabo (004) (Alternate Art) at $35.70, up 90.3 percent, followed by the Sanji (Round 1 Promo) at $48.85, up 31.6 percent. Reprint-set staples are participating too: Monkey.D.Luffy (052) is at $22.08, up 28.4 percent, and Nico Robin at $20.46, up 25.3 percent.
The other side of the ledger is promo and starter-deck material. Nico Robin (Event Pack Vol. 9) is down 42.5 percent to $29.72, Monkey.D.Luffy (001) is down 31.1 percent to $47.31, and Monkey.D.Luffy (Event Pack Vol. 9) is down 23.2 percent to $63.32.
The Terminal take
The thread is a leading indicator, not a price event. What our data can say is that the market has already repriced the format shift at the sealed level, with OP17 at a 3.18 EV ratio against OP16's 0.61, while OP17's three headline alt arts are parked in a tight band near $299.99. If curve-focused support cards from Premium Booster start appearing in successful OP17 lists, PRB02 sealed at a 0.67 ratio is where the pressure would show up first.
