What surfaced
A deck report posted on r/ONEPIECETCG on August 11 makes the case that Black-Green Brook picked up meaningful new pieces in OP17. The author points to a new unblockable Chopper as a late-game closer, paired with a double attack Luffy and a Nightmare Luffy already resident in the build. That is a player-side observation, not a tournament result, but archetype chatter from established pilots tends to precede the singles demand that our data actually measures.
So the question for this desk is narrower: does the price tape agree yet? Right now, only partially.
The set the buzz points at
OP17 remains the most distorted box on our board. Sealed trades at $381.82 against an expected value of $1,146, an EV ratio of 3.0, the highest of any set we track.
| Set | Box market | Box EV | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| OP17 | $381.82 | $1,146 | 3.0 |
| PRB02 | $394.95 | $275 | 0.70 |
| OP15 | $258.16 | $214 | 0.83 |
| OP14 | $257.70 | $194 | 0.75 |
| OP16 | $209.83 | $143 | 0.68 |
A 3.0 ratio on a fresh set is almost always a thin-print, thin-data artifact rather than free money, and it usually compresses as supply lands. Full board on the EV page.
The chase slots carrying that EV are not the Brook pieces. Shanks (020) (Alternate Art) sits at $299.99, the secret rare Loki at $79.99, and Shanks (022) at $29.99. In other words, the money in OP17 is currently priced around a different color pair entirely.
The awkward part: Brook's own promo just cratered
While the deck talk was building, the Straw Hat Round 1 promo cohort had one of the worst weeks on our loser board. Brook (Round 1 Promo) is down 51.8% over seven days to $31.18. The same group moved together: Sanji (Round 1 Promo) off 55.2% to $37.12, Tony Tony.Chopper (Round 1 Promo) off 53.0% to $66.07, and Franky (Round 1 Promo) off 38.3% to $21.81.
That is a supply and distribution story, not a playability story. Promo alt-arts price on scarcity and presentation; a functional deck upgrade in a new set does not repair a cohort whose float just widened.
Where the money actually went
Seven-day flows sat almost entirely in OP16 Whitebeard material. Portgas.D.Ace (118) leads at +109% to $23.10, followed by Edward.Newgate (Alternate Art) at +91.9% to $43.70, Portgas.D.Ace (001) (Alternate Art) at +54.9% to $64.97, and Vista (TR) at +38.4% to $29.83. Newgate also tripped our whale filter at +88.9%.
The Terminal take
Deck-building enthusiasm and price confirmation are different signals, and this week they point opposite ways: the Brook archetype is reportedly stronger, while the Brook promo is down 51.8%. Nothing in OP17's current price structure, a $299.99 Shanks alt and a $79.99 Loki, is being paid for by Black-Green demand. Watch whether any OP17 Brook-adjacent singles enter the gainers board over the next two weeks; that would be the first hard evidence the tape is listening.
