The thread

A post on r/ONEPIECETCG, submitted by u/Tatsushin_, asked a simple question that the community has been circling since OP17 spoilers began landing: will the Whitebeard leader out of the set actually be good? No tournament results exist yet, no consensus lists, just the usual pre-format handicapping that precedes every new wave of leaders.

We do not price speculation. We price cards. And the OP17 tape right now is doing something more interesting than any leader debate.

OP17 is the entire loser board

All five of this week's biggest seven-day decliners come from OP17. That is not a coincidence, that is a set in active supply-shock mode as product hits shelves and pre-release premiums evaporate.

Card Number Price 7d
Shanks (020) (Alternate Art) OP17-020 $51.72 -82.8%
Kaido (062) (Alternate Art) OP17-062 $37.51 -75%
Rocks.D.Xebec (118) OP17-118 $36.84 -53.9%
Rocks.D.Xebec (039) (Alternate Art) OP17-039 $133.38 -53.8%
Loki OP17-119 $38.01 -52.5%

An 82.8% weekly drawdown on an alternate art Shanks is the signature of early-print price discovery, not of a card losing its job. Pre-order and first-wave listings clear at whatever a thin market will bear, then real supply arrives and the number resets.

The top of the set has not moved down

The apex rarities are a separate market. Charlotte Linlin (112) (Manga) sits at $2,900.48, the Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Super Leader Alternate Art) at $2,500, and Shanks (022) (Manga) at $2,299.99. Those three are pull-rate assets, effectively decoupled from whether any given leader wins a regional.

That split matters for the Whitebeard question. Playability moves the $30 to $150 band of a set. It does not move a manga-rare priced near three thousand dollars.

Box EV says the set is still underpriced against its own singles

OP17 leads the expected value board at a 1.58 ratio: $350.10 market on a box against $553 in modeled singles. Every other set on the leaderboard is under 1.0, with OP15 at 0.80, OP14 at 0.71 and OP11 at 0.70.

A ratio above 1.0 in the first weeks of a set is normal and usually temporary. It is also the mechanism driving the loser table: rippers chase the EV gap, singles supply floods in, and the gap closes from the singles side.

Elsewhere on the board

While OP17 corrected, the gainer list ran entirely on older product. Mary Geoise (Alternate Art) added 398.9% to $31.73, Saint Shalria rose 154.4% to $20.45, and Nico Robin (062) (Parallel) climbed 48.1% to $97.36. Capital did not leave the format this week. It rotated out of the newest set.

The Terminal take

The leader debate is currently unpriced, and that is the honest read. What the data shows is a set whose common chase cards have shed between 52.5% and 82.8% in seven days while its box still models a 1.58 EV ratio, meaning the correction has further to run mechanically regardless of how any OP17 leader tests. If Whitebeard turns out to be a format pillar, the evidence will show up in the $30 to $150 tier first, not at the manga-rare top.
