What surfaced

A deck guide posted to r/ONEPIECETCG on September 1 argued that the OP17 release hands meaningful support to two leaders that predate it: the OP14 Mihawk and the OP09 Robin. The framing was that Mihawk was already competitive and now gets stronger, while Robin picks up tools she previously lacked.

That is a community read, not a tournament result. But community reads move singles before results do, and the tape already shows one of the two names ticking.

Robin is the one showing on the tape

Nico Robin (062) (Parallel) is up 32.8% over seven days to $115.95, ranking third among this week's gainers. It is the only card in the top five that ties directly to either archetype in the thread.

For scale, the rest of the leaderboard is dominated by promos and unrelated alt arts: Charlotte Pudding (Alternate Art) leads at +73% to $37.45, and San-Gorou (Treasure Cup 2025) is +31% to $949.88. Robin sitting in that company on archetype news rather than scarcity news is the notable part.

OP17 singles are going the other way

Here is the tension. The set supplying the new support is also the set bleeding hardest this week. All five of the week's biggest decliners are OP17 cards.

Card Set Price 7d
Edward.Newgate (001) (Alternate Art) OP17 $20.10 -72.1%
Kaido (058) (Alternate Art) OP17 $38.73 -67.5%
Edward.Newgate (040) (TR) OP17 $58.37 -65.7%
Charlotte Linlin (099) (Alternate Art) OP17 $22.51 -62.6%
Charlotte Linlin (049) (Alternate Art) OP17 $21.75 -58.9%

That is the standard post-release supply flush, not a verdict on playability. Chase alts get printed into a thin market, presale premiums collapse, and the floor gets found. Nothing in that pattern contradicts a deck guide claiming OP17 commons and uncommons upgrade older leaders.

Sealed math favors the new set, not the old ones

OP17 is the only set on the board with expected value above box cost: $334.39 market against $439 EV, a ratio of 1.31. That is the top of the EV leaderboard and the inverse of what you get chasing the older archetype sets.

OP14 runs $264.48 against $184 EV, a 0.70 ratio. OP09 is worse: $669.52 per box against $235 EV, a ratio of 0.35, the kind of number you only see when a set's value has concentrated into a handful of singles that are no longer sitting in packs at meaningful odds.

The expensive OP14-flagged singles on our board make the point. Buggy - OP09-051 (SP) (Gold) sits at $1,606.53 with 685 PSA submissions and a 93% gem rate. The non-gold Buggy - OP09-051 (SP) is $823.20, and Roronoa Zoro - PRB02-006 (SP) is $906.17 across a 2,694-card PSA pop at an 88% gem rate. Those are collector assets, unrelated to whether Mihawk's numbers improve.

The Terminal take

One data point supports the thread and it is a clean one: Robin's OP09 parallel at +32.8% to $115.95, the only archetype-linked name in the week's top five gainers. Everything else points the other direction on OP17 singles, where five cards shed between 58.9% and 72.1% in seven days while the sealed product still carries the market's only above-1.0 EV ratio at 1.31. Deck-list demand and post-release supply are pulling on different ends of the same set.
