The week the promo tier traded both ways

The single largest print on the board belongs to Marco (SP), which sits at $1,500 after a 45% move, flagged at seaking severity by our radar. Underneath that headline number, the tape was ugly in one specific neighborhood: event and championship promos, which supplied four of the five largest declines and three of the five largest advances. When the same category occupies both tails, you are not looking at a trend, you are looking at thin order books.

Gainers

The upside list skews toward alternate arts and parallels in the $24 to $34 band, with one promo outlier carrying the dollar weight.

Card Set Price 7d
Stick-Stickem Meteora OP05ANN $24.53 +63.5%
Silvers Rayleigh (Alternate Art) OP12 $28.59 +56.0%
DON!! Card (Alternate Art) (Luffy and Loki) (Gold) OP17 $33.41 +52.6%
Sugar (003) (Parallel) OP10 $24.36 +50.3%
Marshall.D.Teach (Online Regional 2023) [Finalist] PROMO $199.99 +45.4%

Four of the five cleared 45%, and the top four all closed under $34. Percentage moves at that price point require very little absolute dollar flow, which is worth holding in mind before reading the chart above as a demand signal.

Losers

Koby (Treasure Cup) was the week's defining decline, off 69.3% to $184.37. A drop of that size in a card still holding a three figure handle means the prior comparable sale was a long way above where the market is now willing to transact, not that the card has been repriced to nothing.

Jozu (Championship 2023) tells a similar story from a similar altitude, down 43.2% and now marked at $188.12. Two championship-era promos within four dollars of each other after declines of that magnitude is a coincidence worth noting, and both sit in the same illiquid promo bucket.

The third name that matters is Streusen (Beginners Deck Party [ST-31] - [ST-36]) (Winner), down 47.5% to $26.25. Unlike the two above it, this one sits in the same low-dollar band as the week's top gainers, which is the cleanest illustration available that the current volatility is a function of price tier, not direction. Further down the list, Usopp (3-on-3 Cup) [Participant] at $140.20 and O-Nami (CS 25-26 Event Pack) at $131.24 round out a loser board that is entirely promo.

Boxes

Every sealed box on our board carries negative expected value, which is how the product is designed. The EV ratio is simply the modeled singles value pulled from an average box divided by what the box costs, so 0.76 means roughly three quarters of your outlay comes back as cards, on average, before fees and before you try to sell anything.

OP11 leads at 0.76, with a box market of $566.03 against $428 of modeled EV, which is also the largest absolute gap in dollars on the list. OP15 follows at 0.73 and OP14 at 0.72, both in the $256.63 to $267.37 box range. PRB02 sits at 0.65 and EB03 trails at 0.58, meaning the EB03 box returns $187 of modeled singles against $320.70 of cost. Full table on the EV page.

Whale watch

Five sightings this week, all at seaking severity, the top band our radar assigns. Marco (SP) at +45% is the dollar outlier. Stick-Stickem Meteora at +63.5% is the largest percentage advance. Koby, Streusen and Jozu fill out the list from the downside, which means four of the five flags are promos and three of the five are negative.

The read

The top of the gainer board and the middle of the loser board are the same price tier, trading the same magnitudes in opposite directions. That pattern is what thin promo liquidity looks like on a seven day window: individual sales set the mark, and the mark swings. The sealed side moved less, with OP11 holding the best ratio on the board and EB03 the worst, a spread of 0.76 to 0.58 across five sets.
