A new player surfaced on r/ONEPIECETCG on September 3 with a familiar entry story: they researched the colors, decided yellow suited their taste, bought the Kid starter deck, and asked the community where to go next. No product announcement, no reprint news, just the single most common transaction in this game, made public.

We cover it because the follow-up question, what to buy after the starter deck, is a pricing question, and the pricing on the yellow-adjacent side of the market is unusually lopsided right now.

The sealed math is unkind

The honest answer to "should I open packs next" almost always lives in expected value. OP10 sealed prints as poorly as anything on the board: a box marks at $252.07 against an EV of $91, an EV ratio of 0.36. That is thirty-six cents of expected card value per dollar of box.

By contrast, OP17 sits at $337.41 per box against $425 of EV, a ratio of 1.26, the only leader on our EV board currently above parity. OP11 runs $618.32 to $440, or 0.71. OP15 is 0.82 at $245.13. If the plan is opening product, the set you open matters more than the color you like.

Where the OP10 money actually is

The reason OP10 boxes price above their EV is concentration. Trafalgar Law (119) (Manga) carries $707.10, with a PSA population of 2,409 and an 87 percent gem rate. Below that, Edward.Newgate (SP) marks $256.37 across 2,189 graded copies at 89 percent gem, and Sanji (SP) is $135.05 on 1,366 copies at 84 percent.

Those gem rates are the tell. When 84 to 89 percent of submissions come back gem, grading adds little scarcity, so the price is doing the work, not the slab.

This week's movers, for context

Starter-deck-adjacent product is not immune to volatility either. Uta out of ST23 is up 40.6 percent on the week to $21.98, the second-largest seven-day gainer on the board behind Charlotte Pudding (Alternate Art) at $38.03 and 42.1 percent.

The other side is uglier and concentrated in the newest set. Kaido (058) (Alternate Art) is down 68.1 percent to $36.94, and Edward.Newgate (040) (TR) shed 64.2 percent to $55.64. Fresh-set alternate arts move fast in both directions, which is worth knowing before a first singles order.

The Terminal take

A starter deck is the cheapest well-defined entry point in this game, and the data explains why new players who graduate to sealed often feel burned: at a 0.36 EV ratio, OP10 boxes are priced for the $707.10 Law, not for the median pull. Meanwhile OP17's 1.26 ratio sits next to five of the week's five largest decliners from that same set, which is what a set looks like while its ceiling cards are still finding a level.
