What surfaced

A thread posted to r/ONEPIECETCG on September 3 collected what the poster describes as the strongest competitive OP17 lists currently being run on simulator clients, and asked the community what they are actually piloting. It is the usual pre-release ritual: sim brewers get shells sorted weeks before paper play settles, and the resulting lists become the informal consensus until a real event contradicts them.

That matters commercially because sim consensus is often the first input into paper demand. It is also, historically, the least reliable one. Our data this week shows exactly that gap.

The OP17 price picture is not following the hype

Every single one of the five worst 7-day performers on the board is an OP17 card. That is not a coincidence of sampling, it is what a freshly opened set looks like when supply arrives faster than tournament results.

Card Number Price 7d
Kaido (058) (Alternate Art) OP17-058 $36.94 -68.1%
Charlotte Linlin (099) (Alternate Art) OP17-099 $20.55 -64.4%
Edward.Newgate (040) (TR) OP17-040 $55.64 -64.2%
Edward.Newgate (001) (Alternate Art) OP17-001 $20.09 -63.6%
Charlotte Linlin (049) (Alternate Art) OP17-049 $20.36 -58.2%

Note the composition. Two Linlin alt arts, two Newgate variants, one Kaido. These are leader and marquee-character prints, precisely the cards a sim decklist would put at the top of a shopping list. They are also the cards whose early asks were built on nothing but speculation, and the correction has been brutal: none of the five now sits above $55.64.

The top of the set is a different market

The ceiling cards are insulated from all of this because they trade as collectibles, not as playables. Rocks.D.Xebec (118) (Super Alternate Art) is marked at $7,899.50. Monkey.D.Luffy (079) (Super Leader Alternate Art) sits at $1,966.52, and Shanks (022) (Manga) at $1,484.46. No sim list is going to move those three in either direction.

The pack math is the more interesting tell. OP17 is the only set on our box EV board currently printing above parity, with a box market of $337.41 against an EV of $425 for a ratio of 1.26. The next closest is OP15 at 0.82, then OP11 at 0.71. In other words, the set's value is still concentrated at the very top of the rarity ladder while the mid-tier alt arts deflate, which is what keeps sealed EV elevated even as individual singles crater.

Where money did move this week

Demand went elsewhere entirely. Charlotte Pudding (Alternate Art) leads the 7-day gainers at $38.03, up 42.1%. Uta follows at $21.98 and 40.6%, then Marshall.D.Teach (119) at $26.18 and 39.9%. On the whale board, San-Gorou (Treasure Cup 2025) moved 31% to $949.88.

The Terminal take

Sim lists are a leading indicator of play patterns and a lagging one for prices. The five sharpest OP17 declines this week are all alt-art versions of the same handful of headline leaders and characters, down between 58.2% and 68.1%, while the set's box EV ratio of 1.26 holds up on the strength of a $7,899.50 secret rare. Until paper results exist, the gap between what the sim likes and what the tape pays is the whole story.
