OP14: a banned chase card inside a 2.2x MSRP box

A post-mortem thread on r/ONEPIECETCG spent the eve of the ban trying to quantify how badly Mihawk had squeezed Slash leaders out of the format, which is roughly the reasoning Bandai gave when it pulled him effective tomorrow. The sealed market has its own accounting. OP14 boxes trade at $267.37 against a $119.76 MSRP, a 2.2x multiple nine months after release, with a 48% one-year CAGR and 38% over the trailing three months.

> $267.37 · current OP14 sealed box market price

Measured from MSRP rather than from the secondary open, the set annualizes at 199%. That is the number doing the heavy lifting in every "should have bought cases" reply in the thread, and it is also the number that makes the current box price hard to sit on.

Inside the box

Rip EV comes in at $191, giving an EV ratio of 0.72. Every sealed product is negative EV by design, so a ratio under 1 is the normal state of the world, not a warning light. What 0.72 tells you is how much of the box price the singles market is currently willing to refund you, and at $11.14 per pack the gap is being paid for in chase-card lottery tickets.

Card Number Price
Buggy - OP09-051 (SP) (Gold) OP09-051 $1,612.87
Roronoa Zoro - PRB02-006 (SP) PRB02-006 $913.26
Buggy - OP09-051 (SP) OP09-051 $820.57
Dracule Mihawk (Manga) OP14-119 $716.49
Boa Hancock - OP14-112 (SP) OP14-112 $527.25

The banned card sits fourth on that board, not first. The top of the set is Buggy and Zoro, and neither moved much into the ban: the gold Buggy is down 0.5% on the week and the same over 30 days, Zoro is up 0.5% and 1.5% respectively, and the standard SP Buggy is down 0.1% and 0.3%. As the chart above shows, this is a set whose price action is being set by collector demand, not by the banlist.

The graded side

PSA has registered 53,581 OP14 submissions at an 88% gem rate, with graded copies carrying a 1.4x premium over raw on average. Back out the print and roughly 308,832 boxes have already been opened, which is the real ceiling on any scarcity story here.

Card level, the spread is wide. The gold Buggy shows 860 graded copies at a 91% gem rate and a PSA 10 at $2,000, a slim 1.2x multiple over raw. Zoro has 3,389 graded at 87%, with a PSA 10 at $1,422.61 for a 1.6x multiple. The standard SP Buggy carries the fattest multiple of the three at 1.8x. Pop is small, gem rates are high, and the grading math rewards the cards that have not already been submitted en masse. Full attrition estimates sit on the destruction page.

Long-term read

OP14 scores 4 out of 10 on the Long-Term Score, labelled Moderate. The drivers are visible in the numbers above: strong trailing returns and a high MSRP multiple on one side, a 0.72 EV ratio and 308,832 estimated boxes opened on the other.

For context on that EV ratio, OP14 ranks third on the current board behind OP11 at 0.76 and OP15 at 0.73, and ahead of PRB02 at 0.65 and EB03 at 0.58. The full table lives on the EV page, and the singles are filterable through the screener. The ban changes what Mihawk does on a table tomorrow. It has not yet changed what OP14 costs.
