The thread
A player posted to r/ONEPIECETCG on September 4 asking a straightforward deckbuilding question: they wanted to build around Law, had already assembled an OP14 version, and wondered why almost nobody was slotting yellow cards from OP17 into the shell despite the healing on offer.
No announcement, no product news, no ban list. Just a build question. But questions like this are the leading indicator that matters most for singles: demand for a card is downstream of whether people believe it belongs in a list.
What the tape says about Law
The headline Law asset in this conversation is Trafalgar Law (119) (Manga) from OP10, at $701.28. PSA has graded 2,409 copies with an 87% gem rate, which is a deep, well-supplied population for a card at that price. That is a collector asset attached to a competitive nameplate, and it does not reprice on a single Reddit post.
A cheaper Law also moved: the OP05ANN Trafalgar Law sits at $130.51 after a 38.8% move, flagged in our whale tracker at seaking severity. Two Laws in the alert feed in the same week is not a trend, but it is not nothing either.
The OP17 problem, priced
The poster's instinct that OP17 yellow is underused is consistent with what the set's economics look like right now. OP17 is the only set on our EV leaderboard besides OP15 trading above its market price: a box is $334.11 against $423 in expected value, an EV ratio of 1.27. Compare that to the two sets the thread mentions.
| Set | Box market | Box EV | EV ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| OP17 | $334.11 | $423 | 1.27 |
| OP14 | $263.63 | $185 | 0.70 |
| OP10 | $252.07 | $90 | 0.36 |
An EV ratio above 1 usually means the chase cards are carrying the set while the mid-rarity playables have not found buyers yet. That is exactly the shape of a set whose commons and uncommons are sitting in binders instead of decks.
OP17's chase math is violent in both directions this week. Edward.Newgate (005) (Manga) is the top gainer at $1,242.24, up 2,080.9% over seven days. Loki added 42.8% to $34.28. On the other side of the ledger, Shanks (OP13-028) (SP) fell 50.8% to $266.79, Marshall.D.Teach (ST27-005) (SP) dropped 44.7% to $221.17, and Edward.Newgate (040) (TR) shed 41.7% to $53.77.
OP10 as a comparison
OP10 boxes are the cheapest of the three at $252.07 with just $90 of EV, a 0.36 ratio, which is what a fully mined set looks like once its singles have been extracted and its playables are established. The set's other named assets include Edward.Newgate (SP) at $256.37 across 2,189 PSA submissions at an 89% gem rate, and Sanji (SP) at $135.05 on 1,366 graded copies with an 84% gem rate.
Full set-by-set expected value is on the EV page.
The Terminal take
The gap between OP17's 1.27 EV ratio and OP10's 0.36 is the whole story: OP17's value is concentrated in a handful of hits with four-figure and three-figure prints swinging 40% to 2,080.9% in a week, while OP10 has already distributed its value into settled singles like the $701.28 manga Law. Underplayed support cards in a young set are cheap because nobody has proven the line yet, and threads like this one are how that proof usually starts.
