OP18 and the 2.9x problem

A thread on r/ONEPIECETCG this week asked a narrow rules question: a player at zero life tried to use the Buster Call card and nothing happened. Does the effect require at least 1 life, or is it a bug in the client? No official clarification has surfaced yet. What has surfaced is the sealed market for the set, where OP18 boxes are changing hands at $347.54 against an MSRP of $119.76, a multiple of 2.9 before the set has even reached its English release date of Nov 20, 2026.

> $347.54 · current OP18 box market price, pre-release

Months since release reads as -1. That is the whole story in one field: this is a forward market, priced on hype, Japanese singles data and whatever rules text people can parse from early lists. Questions like the Buster Call one get asked precisely because nobody has had the cards long enough to build consensus.

Inside the box

Rip EV sits at $260 against that $347.54 box price, an ev_ratio of 0.75. Every box is negative EV by design, so a figure under 1 is the normal state of the world, not a scandal. What 0.75 says is that the sealed premium over MSRP has outrun the singles market underneath it, which is typical for a set trading ahead of release with thin price discovery.

For context on the EV leaderboard, EB05 is the outlier at 1.78 with a $257.60 box against $460 of contents. OP14 sits level with OP18 at 0.75. The full table lives on the EV page.

Card Number Price
Nico Robin OP18-031 $29.99
Saint Gunko OP18-060 $9.99
Monkey.D.Luffy (022) OP18-022 $9.99
Monkey.D.Luffy (016) OP18-016 $4.99
Shark Submerge 3 OP18-076 $3.99

The card above, Nico Robin at $29.99, is the single heaviest line in that stack and is sitting at its all-time high purely because it has no history to fall from. Its 7-day and 30-day changes both read 0. The chart is a flat line by default, not by conviction.

The graded side

PSA population total for OP18: 0. Gem rate, graded premium and estimated boxes opened are all null. There is nothing to grade because there is nothing in hand. Anyone quoting a PSA 10 comp on an OP18 card is quoting air.

That gap matters when you compare OP18 to what is actually moving. This week's tape is dominated by promos and alt arts with real trade history: Kouzuki Hiyori (Alternate Art) at $43.46 and up 161 percent over seven days, Trafalgar Law - ST10-010 at $2,500 and up 99.7 percent. On the other side, Rob Lucci (SP) gave back 33.3 percent to $750. OP18 contributes nothing to either column.

Long-term read

Long-Term Score: 0 out of 10, labeled Unproven. That is a mechanical output, not a verdict. The score needs price history, grading population and a CAGR series to say anything, and OP18 has none of the three. Every CAGR field in the data is null.

The Buster Call question will get answered by a rules team or a patch note. The sealed question gets answered the slow way: by how $347.54 behaves once packs at $14.48 apiece are actually in circulation and the $29.99 Robin has real comps behind it. Release dates and live sealed pricing sit on our pre-orders page; the singles data moves through the screener.
